UK NGOs capitalized on World Bank governance reforms being in the spotlight following Paul Wolfowitz’s resignation as President of the Bank by urging Gordon Brown to promote reform of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund’s leadership selection process. In a letter to the Chancellor, the NGOs call for Britain to use its influence with the United States to persuade them to abandon the outdated convention allowing the U.S. to select the World Bank President and the Europeans to nominate the IMF Managing Director.
